A woman suffered serious head, neck and chest injuries after the taxi she was riding in was involved in a three-vehicle collision on Bayview Avenue at Pottery Road, Toronto Fire officials said.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and Toronto police described the roadway as a sheet of ice.
The woman, who appears to be in her 20s, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to hospital.
The taxi was travelling north on Bayview when it reportedly swerved, spun out and struck a pickup truck and a car that were heading south.
A mother and her two sons, who were in the car, received minor injuries. The woman was sent to hospital with head and neck injuries. Her sons were also sent to hospital as a precaution.
The taxicab and the car were badly damaged. The cab driver, who suffered minor injuries, was sent to hospital as a precaution.
Multiple collisions and fender benders were reported across the city as snow and ice from Monday’s snowfall continued to cause problems on the roads.
Earlier in the morning, the TTC said its buses were diverting on several routes due to unsafe road conditions. However, the delay Eglinton Avenue at Bayview has since cleared.
