Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s help identifying a potential suspect in a fatal fire investigation in midtown Toronto.
Emergency crews were called to an apartment building on Balliol Street near Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue just after 2 a.m. on Thursday.
Fire crews found a small fire burning in the second-floor laundry room.
Toronto police said a man was found suffering from “obvious signs of trauma.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have identified him as Peter Elie, 52, of Toronto.
Later in the day, police released security camera images of a man they are looking to identify. Police said they are treating the man as a “potential suspect.” He was last seen wearing a dark jacket with red and black checkered pajamas.
Police warn if anyone sees the man not to approach him but call 911.
