A firefighter has been seriously injured after a fire at a home in Toronto’s north end early Monday, officials say.

Emergency crews were called to a house under construction on Patricia Avenue, between Bathurst Street and Hilda Avenue south of Steeles Avenue West, just after 6 a.m.

However, a spokesperson for Toronto Paramedic Services told CityNews paramedics were called to the property just before 6:30 a.m. with a report a firefighter was injured.

It’s not clear what exactly happened, but the spokesperson said the firefighter was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

An update posted on Twitter by Toronto Fire Services staff said firefighters had to go to a “defensive mode” and work to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes.

There were no reports of other injuries.
